Overview

Dr. Bart van de Ven was a Belgian oral and maxillofacial surgeon who ran 2pass Clinic in Antwerp (later also Barcelona), one of Europe's most discussed FFS practices. He had a significant online presence on Reddit (u/drbartbelgium) and was known for engaging directly with the trans community.

He passed away in March 2022. Two Reddit posts announced his death. The 2pass Clinic has continued operating with other surgeons.

Controversy

Dr. van de Ven's legacy is significantly complicated by a large number of negative patient accounts. Key documented issues:

  • Patient death: A patient named Emily died at 2pass Clinic in 2021. "Justice for Emily" (BelgianChocolate2021, 2021) alleged negligence by the surgeon and anesthetist
  • Multiple nerve damage reports: Several patients reported 80%+ forehead nerve damage with persistent sensory loss
  • Bone defect: solitary_kidney (2020) — Bart van de Ven reportedly said a "hole in the bone" after forehead recontouring "happens regularly with all FFS surgeons" — other surgeons dispute this
  • Federal-Tension (2020): documented a series of botched chin/jaw surgery, hemosiderin staining from lipo, suicidal ideation, and claimed 2pass gave false information publicly about CT scan requirements
  • FallenDeity88 (2021): "More complications, carelessness, unsanitary practices & victim blaming by Belgian Butcher Bart Van de Ven"
  • Lawsuits: Reports in 2020 that 2pass was cancelling American/Canadian patients due to ongoing lawsuits
  • Blackmailing controversy (2020): 2pass Clinic accused someone affiliated with Facial Team of blackmailing and defaming Bart van de Ven

There are also a number of patients who reported good results. Post-2022 hair transplant work at the clinic has generally received positive reviews.
